Dental health plays a much bigger role in your pet’s overall wellbeing than many pet owners realize. In fact, dental disease is one of the most common health conditions seen in both dogs and cats—and it often starts quietly. Regular tooth brushing helps prevent plaque and tartar buildup, reduces bad breath, and protects against painful dental disease and tooth loss. Even more importantly, keeping your pet’s mouth healthy can help reduce the spread of bacteria that may affect vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys.
While brushing is the gold standard for dental care, dental treats and chews can be a great addition to your pet’s routine. These products are designed to help mechanically reduce plaque, freshen breath, and support gum health—especially for pets who are still learning to tolerate brushing. Many veterinarian-recommended chews can offer real benefits when used consistently.
That said, dental chews and treats aren’t enough on their own. They work best as a supplement, not a replacement, for brushing and professional dental care. The best approach to pet dental health combines regular tooth brushing at home, approved dental chews, and routine veterinary dental checkups. This February, take a moment to focus on your pet’s smile—healthy teeth help support a longer, happier, and more comfortable life.

WANAR Pet Food Drive & BBQ Coming to Early’s
On August 23rd, Early’s Farm & Garden Centre (2615 Lorne Ave) will host its annual Pet Food Drive in support of WANAR – We All Need A Rescue. The event will feature a BBQ from 11 AM to 3 PM, with all proceeds going directly to the dogs in WANAR’s care.
Volunteers from WANAR will be on hand, working the BBQ and collecting donations. Contributions will help provide food, medical care, and other essentials for rescue dogs in need.
Last year, the community came together to donate an incredible 300 bags of pet food. This year, organizers are challenging everyone to help beat that record. Guests will also have the chance to meet some of the rescue dogs currently available for adoption—a perfect opportunity to connect with a future furry family member.
Donations can be purchased during the event or made over the phone by calling 306-931-1982.
Come out, enjoy some great food, and help make a difference for animals in need.
