Long, smooth roots that can grow up to 12" long. A heavy yielding root crop. This delicious, cool weather is one of the hardest of all root crops. Plants are frequently grown with carrots, and beets. Their delicate, sweet rutty flavor compliments any meal. Prepare by parboiling or steaming. Great for stews, soups, and shredded in salads.
Plant: Soak seeds for 24 hours before planting to improve germination. Select a sunny location with light porous soil, cultivate deeply and enrich with vegetable food and organic matter. In cold winter areas sow seed in the spring as soil can be worked. Sow from mid-July to mid-September in mild winter areas. Firm soil over seed.
Care: Keep soil moist, weed free and feed ever 4 weeks.
Harvest: Flavor improves if allowed to develop in ground during fall and early winter. May be left in frozen ground indefinitely. Pull before tops flower.
