A delicious vegetable for fall and winter use. Have a mild cabbage taste, but are far more tender and tasty. Frost improves their flavor. In most areas they are grown for fall harvest. Good fresh or frozen.
Plants produce a heavy crop of delicious blue-green sprouts that are extremely cold hardy. Frost improves flavor. Plant in early spring for a fall crop in the North. The Vitamin-rich heads are delicious when used fresh or frozen.
This cool-weather relative to cabbage is easy to grow, producing a large head. The vitamin-rich head is actually a cluster of tiny flower buds. After the head is harvested, it "sprouts" numerous smaller heads. Sow in early spring or fall, or plant transplants. Delicious fresh, frozen, raw or steamed!
When and Where to Plant: Plant seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, keeping soil temperature in the mid-70's. Grow in full sun. Shift hardened transplants to garden shortly after last frost.
Care: Water regularly and fertilize every 4-6 weeks.
Harvest: As sprouts develop from bottom, break off lower leaves to encourage heavier production.
Your Health: More vitamin C than an orange! Also high in vitamins A, B, and B2, calcium, iron and potassium.
