The round, bright red roots of this popular variety are tender and delicious, and can be utilized fresh, canned or pickled. Their reddish green leaves also make good-tasting greens. Beets are easy to grow and tolerate a wide range of conditions, but prefer cool weather.
When and Where to Plant: Sow seeds every 3 weeks in a sunny area, with fertile, well drained soil. Beets can also be grown in containers.
Care: Provide regular, uniform moisture to keep plants growing. Thin plants to prevent overcrowding.
Harvest: Pull up clumps when roots are 2" (5cm) across.
Your Health: Greens are an excellent source of potassium and vitamins A & C. Roots a good source of fiber.
